Learning to go with the flow | Midwest Sunset Family Session

I'm told all the time by parents after a session that I'm so patient with the kids and I'm always surprised to hear it. This last time was while I was working with the Pagel crew. It really made me think it's time we have a talk about going with the flow!

I don't usually shoot in Effingham, il so I picked a park that was close to the interstate I take home. I stopped by Evergreen Hallow Park after school (I just graduated with my teaching certificate in cosmetology!) the week before our session to check it out and thought I could totally make it work!

(Just a few of my scouting pix I took on my phone)

Great right? What I didn't take into account (or take a picture of 🤦‍♀️) was that in order to get to these awesome locations I had to get 3 amazing kiddos past this really cool playground... 🙈

(Upsetti Spaghetti)

So as you can imagine I had lost before we'd even begun.. Or had I?

Heres what I do when kids are.. well KIDS!

STEP 1: FORGET YOUR PLAN!

Yeah, yeah... I know that seems like a no brainer but seriously. Save yourself the frustration and find something to peek their interest and then roll with it.

STEP 2: DON'T GET MAD GET GLAD

Those kids are gonna feed off of the rent's energy. If the rents are stressed the kids are gonna run amuck! Parents know their kids are gonna be kids, what they are afraid of is how you are going to react to them. Reassure the rents at every turn and reminds them that you are there to go with the flow.

STEP 3: ACTUALLY ENJOY YOUR TIME WITH THEM

Sure it's your job, but who says it can't be fun? Have high energy, be playful, be funny, and the next thing you know you've got a memory card full of joy!
